Apa ahli UMNO dan orang UMNO buat?Presiden mereka dihina sedemikan rupa?Bacul sangatkah hingga biarkan sahaja bendera yang menjadi lambang institusi KePresidenan parti iini dibiarkan dipijak maruahnya oleh anak-anak haram ini.

Haramjadah Timbalan Menteri Pengajian Tinggi ini yang dilihat seperti bersekongkoi dengan anak-anak bangsat ini.Terrsenyum bagaikan pemimpin yang paling celaka yang pernah UMNO lahirkan. Presidennya dihina sedemikan rupa tapi beliau boleh tersenyum macam sial menerima memorandum anak-anak haram ini.

Kenapa Saifuddin jadi bangsat seperti pelajar-pelajar bangsat ini?Siapa yang bagi mereka jalan ataupun buka pintu untuk masuk ke dalam rumah UMNO dan menghina sedemikan rupa?Saifuddinkah talibarutnya?
Kita cabar kepimpinan UMNO di semua peringkat.Kalau tidak ada tindakan,mereka semua tidak layak untuk jadi pemimpin UMNO dan menjaga maruah UMNO.Dan kepada Saifuddin,jelaslah kamu pun sama bangsatnya dengan pelajar-pelajar itu.

AUKU: Saifuddin mahu maklumat perinci insiden turun gambar Najib di PWTC

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Dis — Timbalan Menteri Pengajian Tinggi Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah mahu mendapatkan maklumat terperinci daripada pihak-pihak terbabit berhubung dakwaan bahawa gambar Datuk Seri Najib Razak di PWTC diturunkan oleh peserta demonstrasi membantah Akta Universiti dan Kolej Universiti (AUKU) petang tadi.
“Insiden turun naik bendera gambar DSN (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) di PWTC petang tadi. Saya telah hubungi penganjur minta keterangan. Saya juga hubungi pihak PWTC,” kata Saifuddin, yang juga ahli Majlis Tertinggi Umno, menerusi mesej Twitter malam ini.
ASPIRASI mengecam tindakan yang tidak matang dan memalukan oleh kumpulan pelampau mahasiswa yang mengelarkan diri mereka sebagai BEBAS.
Berarak dan berhimpun menganggu kententetaman awam. Menjatuhkan maruah dan keintelekualan seluruh mahasiswa.
Sekitar 100 mahasiswa universiti awam tempatan mengadakan demonstrasi di ibu negara kira-kira 2 petang dan menyerahkan memorandum kepada Suhakam.
Kemudian kumpulan itu menuju ke PWTC yang menempatkan ibu pejabat Umno di Menara Dato’ Onn untuk menyerahkan memorandum kepada wakil parti teras BN itu.
Dalam pada itu, akaun Twitter @MahasiswaMsia dengan merujuk kepada isu Himpunan Bebas berkata, “sejarah tercipta! Demonstrasi hingga ke bangunan Umno di PWTC dan sejarah itu dicipta oleh Mahasiswa! Bangkit Mahasiswa!”
Mesej susulannya berbunyi, “17 Disember ’11 — hari bersejarah negara.”
Katanya, mahasiswa berdemonstrasi dan dapat menawan ibu pejabat Umno di PWTC dengan membawa satu tuntutan iaitu kebebasan akademik.
Bagaiamanpun mesej akaun seterusnya memaklumkan Saifuddin bahawa kejadian itu memang bukan sesuatu yang dirancang.
“Insiden ini bukan perancangan kami, di luar kawalan.

“Isu turun bendera gambar DS @NajibRazak Ia di luar kawalan penganjur. Koalasi Bebas pandang serius dan akan bincang perkara ini,” kata dua mesej yang menyusul sekitar 9 malam tadi.
Maklumat yang diperoleh dari akaun yang sama memaklumkan Saifuddin bahawa “ketua demo (demonstrasi petang) tadi Safwan Anang, kami akan bincangkn isu turun gambar DSN (Najib)ini secara serius malam ini juga.”
Sementara itu Pengerusi SAMM Badrul Hisham Shaharin menerusi mesej Twitternya membalas @MahasiswaMsia menulis, “Terus bangkit!”
Bagaimanapun tindakan mereka mendapat bantahan dan dikecam ahli-ahli dan pemimpin Umno. Bekas ketua sayap muda Perkasa Arman Azha Abu Hanifah, yang juga pemimpin Pemuda Umno PJ Utara, dalam kenyataan yang dikongsi berkata,
Aspirasi mengecam tindakan yang tidak matang dan memalukan oleh kumpulan pelampau mahasiswa yang mengelarkan diri mereka sebagai Bebas.
“Berarak dan berhimpun mengganggu kententetaman awam. Menjatuhkan maruah dan keintelekualan seluruh mahasiswa.
Apa yang menyedihkan lagi, kerenah pelampau ini dilayan oleh YB Datuk Saifudin Abdullah, umpama mereka ini diiktiraf!
“Pihak kerajaan mesti berhati-hati dalam tindakan sebegini.
Aspirasi kecewa apabila mahasiswa ini tidak mengenang budi sehingga sanggup menurunkan bendera YAB PM dan mendesak YAB Dato Seri Mohd Najib letak jawatan!” kata kenyataan itu.
Aspirasi merupakan antara beberapa kumpulan pelajar berpengaruh di pusat pengajian tinggi awam tempatan.
Safwan ketika dihubungi The Malaysian Insider lewat malam berkata, pihaknya akan mengadakan mesyuarat pagi esok untuk membincangkan isu terbaru ini.
“Kami akan mengeluarkan satu kenyataan rasmi selepas mesyuarat esok,” katanya lagi.

At 4.05pm Dato Sri Najib Tun Razak took the microphone and spoke about the Budget for Malaysia in 2012.

He started with the historical background of development in Malaysia since independence.

It is not a government that over promises but a government “yang saban hari memikir, merancang dan merekayasa..” the country’s development.

After 53 budgets, and several national policies since independence, Najib today continues with the policies that had been successful and will propel Malaysia to be more progressive with a functioning democracy.

Key points:

- FDI increased to RM21.2 billion in the first 6 months of 2011.

- International reserves is at RM414 billion 15th September 2011 9.5 months of import

- Out of the whole budget, 78% (RM181.6 billion) for administration, 22% (RM51 billion) for development. Total RM232.6 billion.

- Private Financing Initiative (PFI) will be initiated to built infrastructures (schools, hospital, low cost housing etc) totalling RM6 billion.

- The theme is “Belanjawan Membela Rakyat, Mensejahterakan Negara”

- 17 more service sub-sectors will be liberalised – dentistry, architect, accounting, etc whereby foreign equity up to 100% will be introduced.

- From the years 2011 to 2020, the policy “Dasar Transformasi Nasional” is introduced and will be used.

- Few highways, and projects will be developed in all 5 economic corridors introduced in the previous administration.

- Sukuk; Malaysia introduced world first Sukuk Wakala at USD2 billion and was over subscribed 4 times in 2011 with tax exemptions for any issuance in 2012.

- Felda Global Ventures will be listed. A co-operative where all Felda settlers will get dividends which will be announced soon.

- Sincere and hardworking entrepreneurs will be given 2nd chance if their businesses fail. RM100 million will be provided under Entreprenuer Revitalisation Fund operated by SME Bank.

- Franchising by local companies can improve the economy. Tax cuts will be given to these local franchisees.

- Exemptions from import duties and excise duty for hybrid cars importers till 31 December 2013.

- 70% tax cuts to all hotel operators for the next 5 years.

- Human capital development: Innovation will be the main impetus where R&D must be transformed into viable projects in private and public sector. 2012 is declared as Innovation Year with awards and other initiatives.

- Commercial Innovation Fund of RM500 million will fund companies with innovative products to help them market and produce. The Fund is syariah compliant.

- Knowledge is key in any civilisation or any developed nation. Education sector will be provided RM50.2 billion with extra RM1 billion to repair, build all schools.

- All fees for exams, co-curriculum, insurance for schools will be abolished in 2012 onwards. This means, education is now free for primary and secondary schools.

- Rural Transformation Program is set up to fund water electricity and roads

- Salary and pension revision upwards for civil servants and retirees.

- Civil servants are offered masters degrees and PHDs opportunities to further their studies on part time basis. RM80 million is allocated for this to improve their careers.

- Government will give a one off RM3,000 per person to all 4,300 contract workers

- Government will give a one off RM3,000 to ex-members of special and auxiliary police, including widows and widowers, covering 62,000 people to remember their contribution to the country.

- RM500 million of Army Care Fund to improve army camps etc.

- RM40 million allocated to increase Kedai 1Malaysia to all states.

- Ceiling price for affordable houses will be set at RM220K and will be developed by PRIMA (a government agency) in government lands.

- To protect housebuyers, government will initiate a build and sell scheme for all houses priced at RM600K and below so that risks of stalled housing projects will not fall unto the buyers. Bank Islam will partner government for this scheme.

- Syarikat Perumahan Negara (SPNB) will build 10,000 housing units priced at RM45,000 in 2012.

- Expatriates in Malaysia increased to 41,000 in 2011. They can now start saving in EPF.

- RM300 million will be allocated to build houses for fishermen.

- Puduraya has been upgraded at a cost of RM40 million. Kuala Lumpur General Hospital which is 141 years old will be upgraded at a cost RM300 million with a new wing for outpatients.

- Good news for doctors on call. RM600 per month for working beyond normal hours.

- Private budget taxi operators will get 100% exemption on duty excise on buying new taxi cars. No road tax for all budget taxi operators.

- Suspects with no money to pay defence lawyers will be provided with free defence lawyers.

- Government will provide training to women with potential to push them as company directors. RM10 million will be allocated.

- RM300 for small business as micro loans for women entrepreneurs.

- Discount for senior citizens to travel in LRT and monorail and no outpatient registration fee for them in hospitals.

- RM500 one off payment to household income Rm3000 and below to subsidise children school expenses.

- RM100 for all school children in primary and secondary through Bank Simpanan Nasional involving RM530 million.

- RM200 book voucher to all university students involving 260 million.

- Retiring age for civil servants to be increased from 58 to 60 years old

- Another half month bonus to all civil servants with RM500 for all pensioners. The previous half month bonus was paid last August.

“Perjuangan ini bukan perjuangan sehari, seminggu, sebulan mahupun setahun. Ia adalah perjuangan berdekad lamanya. Inilah sebuah bajet di bawah Dasar Transormasi Nasional diilhamkan demi rakyat. Kepada Allah jua kita berserah.”

Peserta bantah kenaikan air kena gas

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 Dis: Kira-kira 15,000 orang yang menyertai perhimpunan aman membantah kenaikan harga air oleh Syabas di pekarangan Masjid Negara terpaksa berpecah kerana disuraikan dengan semburan air dan gas oleh pasukan polis.
Ini ekoran pihak polis menghalang semua laluan menunju ke Istana Negara.
Mereka yang berkumpul sejak sebelum waktu Zohor pada mulanya berada dalam suasana tenang sementara menunggu ketibaan pemimpin Kerajaan Selangor untuk menyerahkan memorandum membantah kenaikan tarif itu kepada Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Menteri Besar Selangor, Tan Sri Khalid berkesempatan menyampaikan ucapan yang sebahagiannya adalah daripada kandungan memorandum itu kepada orang ramai.
Pihak polis membenarkan rombongan beliau dengan tiga buah kereta ke Istana Negara bagi menyerahkan memorandum berkenaan.
Sebaik sahaja anggota rombongan meninggalkan kawasan Masjid Negara, pihak polis mulai menyurai peserta himpunan aman itu termasuk menggunakan gas pemedih mata dan semburan air daripada jentera water cannon.

Menteri Besar Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim menyampaikan ucapan.

Sebahagian peserta himpunan aman membantah kenaikan harga air oleh Syabas di perkarangan Masjid Negara.

AJK PAS Pusat, Mohamad Sabu turut menyertai rakyat menolak penswastaan air.

Ketua Dewan Muslimat PAS Pusat, Ustazah Mohd Salleh turun bersama rakyat menyatakan bantahan.

Rakyat dari pelbagai lapisan yang menyertai bantahan kenaikan harga air oleh Syabas.

Pasukan polis membuat halangan.

Jentera water cannon menyebur air dan melepasjan gas pemedih mata kepada peserta himpunan aman.

Diplomats seek Israeli approval for Gaza aid vessel

Jerusalem (ANTARA News/AKI) - European diplomats have been engaged in talks with senior Israeli foreign ministry officials to allow an Irish-owned humanitarian aid vessel to deliver supplies to the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli daily Haaretz.

The Rachel Corrie was to have been part of the flotilla that was stopped by Israeli naval forces early Monday but was delayed due to technical problems.

The Israeli foreign ministry for the past few days has been exchanging messages with the group operating the ship to allow it to dock, according to the report. It is expected to arrive this weekend.

Ireland has also asked Israel to allow the Irish-owned ship to break the Gaza blockade.

The Rachel Corrie, named for the American pro-Palestinian activist who was run over by an Israeli bulldozer in Gaza in 2003, left Malta on Monday with about a dozen activists aboard and 1,000 tonnes of aid.

Its cargo includes cement, medical equipment, toys and printing paper.
"We don`t want to be heroes or martyrs, but we have to keep going ahead,? activist Jenny Graham told the Irish daily, The Belfast Telegraph.

The Rachel Corrie`s trip to Gaza is sponsored by two non-governmental organisations, from Ireland and Malaysia.

On board is Irish Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Corrigan Maguire and former United Nations deputy secretary-general Denis Halliday. Also on board are a group of Malaysians sponsored by the former prime minister of Malaysia.

10 PM CST: Solidarity activists aboard one of six relief vessels traveling to Gaza with humanitarian report that they have been attacked by Israeli forces, with three of their human rights volunteers killed and roughly 30 injured. The assault comes in the wake of the flotilla being surrounded earlier today by three Israeli warships in international waters, roughly 70 miles away from the Israeli coast. The Flotilla moved further west, deeper into international waters to avoid any conflict with Israeli navy vessels, but had been concerned all night that Israeli forces would send small inflatable military boats towards the flotilla and attempt to attack and board the humanitarian vessels.
Those fears have apparently been realized, with people aboard the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish ship with hundreds of aid workers and activists aboard, reporting that they have been attacked. At least three passengers have been killed and dozens more wounded. Israeli commandos apparently rappelled onto the Mavi Marmara, whose passengers range in age from 88 to a year old and include Christians, Muslims and Jews seeking to end the blockade. Midwest U.S. activists have been unable to reach Chicagoan Fatima Mohammadi, traveling aboard the Mavi Marmara.
Live video from the flotilla shows Israeli naval commando vessels pulling alongside the aid ships, and what sounds like gunfire can be heard in the background. No-one on the aid ships is carrying any kinds of weapons, including for defense against a feared Israeli attack in international waters.
Hundreds of elected officials, former diplomats, aid workers and activists – including a Nobel laureate and many European legislators – are with the flotilla, traveling by sea to Gaza to break Israel’s blockade of the tiny strip of land. Foreign news correspondents and independent journalists are traveling aboard the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish ship with hundreds of aid workers and activists aboard which is also running its own press operation reachable at the satellite number +8821636619168. A total of six ships, including two cargo ships and other passenger vehicles, are carrying thousands of tons of humanitarian aid to the beseiged region, which has been under Israeli blockade since 2006.
Israel has marshalled its most lethal military vessels to try to stop the humanitarian marine convoy, and at around 2:20 pm Central Standard Time (US) the first reports of unmanned drone planes buzzing the vessels was received from convoy passengers.
Two boats in the aid flotilla, one currently traveling with the convoy to Gaza and another in port in Cyprus for repairs, are flagged and registered in the United States. The ships are U.S. territory under maritime law, and the U.S. government is required to intervene if this “U.S. property” is attacked or illegally confiscated by Israeli authorities — a tactic Israel has threatened and deployed in the past. Israel has a long history of attacking ships whose missions are deemed undesirable. In December 2008, it rammed the Dignity, carrying medical and humanitarian aid, doctors, human rights workers and a former U.S. congresswoman, without warning in international waters.
Israel intensified its 2006 blockade after attacking the area in a weeks-long assault that ended in January 2009, killing more than 1,400 and leaving thousands more homeless and reducing huge swaths of housing to rubble. The blockade has created mass unemployment and extreme poverty, leaving four out of five Gazans — half of whom are children — dependent on humanitarian aid.
The Freedom Flotilla carries more than 10,000 tons of relief and developmental aid to Gaza, along with roughly 700 participants from more than 30 countries, among them volunteers from South Africa, Algeria, Turkey, Macedonia, Pakistan, Yemin, Kosovo, the UK and US and Kuwait – and an exiled former Archbishop of Jerusalem who currently lives in the Vatican. The cargo includes prefabricated homes and playgrounds, cement and other home-building supplies, medical devices and medications, textiles and food, in defiance of Israel’s siege on Gaza, which restricts the entry of all materials, including food and medicine. The flotilla’s supplies were gathered by a coalition of international civil society and human rights organizations to be sent directly to the people of Gaza by sea, using only international waters and the coastal waters immediately off of Gaza for passage. The flotilla is expected to arrive in Gaza as early as today.
Participants on board speak languages that include English, Turkish, Kurdish, over ten dialects of Arabic, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish, Portugeuse, French, Malaysian, Indonesian, Norweigen, Swedish, Urdu, Punjabi, Farsi, Hindi, German, Flemish, Greek, Catalon, Russian, Bosnian, Chechen, Macedonian and Albanian. Semua Di Malaysia Menentang Judi Bola, Tidak Kira Agama, Bangsa atau Fahaman Politik

Vincent Tan telah cuba untuk mempetahankan pemberian lesen judi bola oleh Kerajaan BN kepada beliau dengan berkata:

“The Government has made it really clear that Muslims are not in any way allowed to bet with us. So my question is why are these groups so unhappy,” he told Malaysian reporters in London.
“We don't want to quarrel with them. I ask why. They know that illegal bookies are all around the country and the Government don't get any revenue,” he said.

Siapakah yang Vincent Tan cuba tipu? Penipuan Vincent Tan dibahagi kepada beberapa fasa:

1.0 Kenyataan Awang Adek dan Najib sendiri tidak menyatakan judi ini diharamkan pada orang Islam? Kalau benar ia diharamkan untuk orang Islam, saya cabar Vincent Tan untuk membawa bukti hitam putih. 4.0 Vincent Tan cuba memberi gambaran kononnya dengan menghalalkan judi bola maka judi haram boleh dikawal. Masaalahnya, apa bukti yang Vincent Tan boleh bawa untuk menyokong teori beliau ini?

5.0 Vincent Tan tidak dapat menyorok tujuan sebenar judi bola diadakan yakni untuk membuat keuntungan yang berlipat kali ganda bagi tujuan mengkayakan beberapa individu dan tokeh-tokeh.

6.0 Juga, saya amat yakin, judi bola ini akan memberikan keuntungan yang banyak untuk UMNO terutamanya di dalam menghadapi Pilihanraya Umum yang dijangka diadakan tahun hadapan.

Saya mencabar Vicent Tan untuk menafikan yang berikut:

1.0 Bahawa, mengikut laporan Mayban Securities pada tahun 2006, potensi untuk judi bola terutamanya sepanjang Piala Dunia adalah berjumlah RM1.7 billion. (Sila rujuk di sini untuk mendapat maklumat lebih mendalam).

2.0 Ertinya, jumlah judi yang mengalir dalam ekonomi Malaysia seharian sudah pun terlampau besar. Mengapa mahu menambah lagi dua kali lipat?

3.0 Saya cabar Vincent Tan nafi bahawa apabila orang miskin berjudi, mereka akan menggunakan wang yang sepatutnya mereka guna untuk membeli keperluan hidup keluarga mereka seperti makanan, ubat-ubatan, buku sekolah dsbnya. Ini bererti akan ramai lagi kanak-kanak yang kurang makan dan peralatan sekolah hanya kerana ibu bapa mereka berjudi? Bukankah ini satu kezaliman?

Saya juga sedih bila ada seorang pembaca saya bernama GM Tak Ori cuba membawa kenyataan Vincent Tan ini seolah-olah ianya satu bentuk kebenaran yang hakiki. Saya tak heran sebab pendokong-pendokong UMNO seperti GM tak ori ini adalah pengikut ajaran Khawarij al UMNO.

Jadi, mereka biasa menghalalkan perkara yang haram serta mengharamkan perkara yang halal.

Sibu vote shows difficulties for BN, Pakatan

ANALYSIS, May 17 — DAP’s Sibu win does not mean Pakatan Rakyat can soon win Putrajaya or Petrajaya, but it also shows that Barisan Nasional’s use of the chequebook will no longer impress disgruntled voters.
Wong Ho Leng’s slim 398 vote majority win revealed DAP’s smart use of issues and disenchantment among the Chinese and Christians, which the Najib administration could not solve simply with grants and promises of better times if the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate gets elected.
But it also illustrated that DAP and Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) appeal did not go beyond those communities to the key Melanau/Iban demographic, who stuck to BN and some of whom called DAP ally, PKR, troublemakers.
Just like in the Malay peninsula, PR’s outreach to the dominant communities was only limited to urban areas, and not rural areas which have more Parliamentary and state seats.
“We didn’t get the Iban vote, it’s very close then,” a senior DAP leader told The Malaysian Insider in the tense hours leading to the announcement of official results for the Sibu by-election.
The lack of appeal to rural communities will hamper PR’s quest to capture Sarawak and replace long-serving Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in state administrative capital, Petrajaya.
The biggest upset was for BN, which stuck to its playbook of development politics by wielding its chequebook to solve issues that had festered under five-term Sibu MP, the late Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew, similar to Hulu Selangor which had a laundry list of issues unresolved by four-term MP Datuk G. Palanivel.
Unlike last month’s Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election which it won narrowly, BN lost Sibu and dented the image of Sabah and Sarawak being its “fixed deposit” in general elections. Both states provided 54 of the 137 seats won by BN in Election 2008, in its worst-ever electoral outing.
BN had expected to win Sibu, as it did Hulu Selangor, by putting a younger candidate backed by the resources of the ruling federal government to almost instantly fulfil the needs of the voters.
Anecdotal evidence showed BN spent up to RM170 million in Hulu Selangor and over RM20 million for Sibu, including unprecedented special grants totalling RM1.75 million to four Methodist churches.
Was it to counter DAP’s strategy of using the “Allah” row or news that the Home Ministry had told the Bible Society of Malaysia last March that it intended to destroy 5,000 copies of the Malay-language bible Al-Kitab?
Sunday’s by-election results have yet to be fully analysed to see if the grants swayed votes to BN, but data from DAP showed voters in Rajang Park snubbed the prime minister’s promise of RM5 million to alleviate floods if SUPP’s Robert Lau Hui Yew won the seat.
The Sibu by-election also showed that Datuk Seri Najib Razak has to stick to his 1 Malaysia mantra of “People First. Performance Now” by resolving issues immediately instead of hoping time will cure them.
Letting the courts refrain from deliberating the “Allah” issue only prolongs the matter and the sense that Christians are not getting equal treatment under the law. Promising to help the Chinese to permanently prevent floods or get them new schools during an election campaign shows they are only seen as vote-banks and nothing more.
This will be the prime minister’s worry as Sarawak will have to hold state elections by July 2011, and long-standing issues have to be resolved if BN does not want to lose the country’s biggest state to PR.
Some saw the Sibu vote as a referendum on the powerful Abdul Taib who has been at the helm since 1981. His absence in the Sibu campaign was noticeable but did not help the coalition retain the seat.
While DAP crows over its closely-fought win in its first by-election since Election 2008 and share the experience with its weaker ally PKR, which has lost six MPs, Najib will have to work hard on delivering economic progress similar to the 2010’s first quarter growth of 10.1 per cent to impress the voters.

11.30pm: Speaking at a press conference, a beaming Wong Ho Leng says: "This victory is one small step in Sibu, one big step to (state administrative capital) Petrajaya, and one giant step to Putajaya."

Robert Lau, meanwhile, expresses sadness: "I'm sad, because Sibu is going to lose out on a lot of things. I have said in my campaign that if we lose, we lose the confidence of the federal government.

"But my heart is still with the people of Sibu and I will serve them in whatever capacity that I can," says the SUPP leader.

11.10pm: A crowd of 3,000 gather outside the main tally centre at Dewan Suarah to celebrate DAP's victory in Sibu. They shout, "Dacing tipu".

Independent Narawi Haron forfeited his RM10,000 deposit for failing to obtain at least one-eighth of the total vote cast.

The Election Commission has revised the voter turnout. It now says the turnout was 70% instead of 59.86% (which is higher than the 68% in the 2008 general elections).

The two-hour delay in the announcement of the result was due to a dispute in the postal ballots where 208 votes were rejected. This however did not change the final result. According to the EC, the dispute was over the validity of witnesses' signature for postal votes.

DAP leaders claimed that there is a discrepancy in the postal vote tally between what they have and the Election Commission's, which caused much anxiety among the opposition that their win could be "stolen".

The final result of the postal ballots:

BN - 2,323

On the spot analysis:

DAP won partly because 208 'dodgy' postal votes were rejected and that independent candidate Narawi Haron helped take away 232 votes which most probably would go to BN.

10.55pm: Election Commission is expected to announce that DAP has won the Sibu by-election with a majority of 398.

On the spot analysis:

Pakatan Rakyat has managed to reverse its series of losses (Bagan Pinang and Hulu Selangor) with this win in Sibu.

Of the 11 by-election since March 2008, Pakatan has won eight while BN three. Sibu is also Pakatan's first victory in East Malaysia (PKR lost in Batang Ai in April last year).

For DAP, this is the first by-election which the party has won in 13 years. Sibu will be the party's second parliamentary seat in Sarawak to its existing Bandar Kuching. It also cemented its position as the biggest opposition party in Malaysia with 29 parliament seats under its belt.

With the defeat in Sibu, BN may delay the Sarawak state election to next year. Sarawak will need to call the state polls by middle of next year.

10.35pm: It appears that there was some minor dispute over the postal ballots. However, it is learnt that the Election Commission will be announcing the result soon.

It is almost certain that DAP has won this closely fought by-election by between 300 and 400 votes.

10.30pm: SUPP Sibu chief Wong Soon Koh at Wisma Sanyan criticised Lim Guan Eng for acting rude by "leading people to come to 'kacau'."

"This is not a healthy culture," he said.

Robert Lau is also reported to be dissatisfied that Lim and four other DAP members met with the SPR officer without the presence of Barisan people. They said they will "consider taking the election dispute to court."

10.15pm: At the main tally centre in Dewan Suarah, two SUPP officials are meeting with returning officer Wong See Meng. It is believed that they are discussing about the delay in the announcing of postal vote results.

They are later joined by DAP officials Ng Wei Aik, Lim Lip Eng and Ronnie Liu.

It is still raining in Sibu. The rain began about two hours ago. Supporters from both sides, many of them holding umbrellas, are waiting calmly outside Dewan Suarah.

10.10pm: Election Commission chief Abdul Aziz Yusof tells Malaysiakini in an SMS message that the postal ballots Form 15 is on its way to the main tally centre in Dewan Suarah.

"EC is waiting for the official postal ballot result," he says.

Meanwhile, EC deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar says the commission will explain the delay soon.

"I'll explain after we announce the result shortly," he tells Malaysiakini.

10.09pm: All top DAP leaders are waiting at Wisma Sanyan, where the postal ballots were counted.

Lim Guan Eng tells Malaysiakini that he is worried “something suspicious could be going on” and he hopes that the Election Commission officials can release the Form 15, a document which certifies the final result of the postal ballots.

Should it be true that BN has won the postal votes by a margin of 2,300, then DAP will be declared the winner of the Sibu by-election with a tissue-thin majority of 300 votes.

It is confirmed that Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin has returned to Kuala Lumpur.

There is no movement at the main tally centre in Dewan Suarah in Sibu. The official tally still indicates that 16 boxes, including the postal votes, are yet to be sent to be included in the final result.

9.50pm: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang questions the hold-up in the Election Commission's announcement of the 2,571 postal ballots.

"The postal ballot counting started at 5.30pm and finished at 8.30pm."

He asks why there is more than an hour delay in the announcement of results.

"Up to some trick?" he wonders aloud.

9.35pm: The counting of postal votes has ended. However, DAP scrutineers are unable to get Form 15 - the official tally signed by the returning officer.

It is understood that BN has won 2,300 out of a total 2,571 postal votes. This will translate into a DAP victory with a margin of 300 votes.

DAP candidate Wong Ho Leng refuses to claim victory as yet.

"I don't want comment. Please wait for the official announcement," he told Malaysiakini.

9.24pm: The final result may not be announced anytime soon. The 2,571 postal votes are still being counted. All DAP leaders leave the party's operations room in Sibu for Wisma Sanyan where the postal votes are being tallied.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang wants to know what is holding up the Election Commission from announcing the by-election result.

9.21pm: Election Commission chief Abdul Aziz Yusof sends a SMS message to Malaysiakini saying that the voter turnout "could be more than 60 percent".

Malaysiakini has earlier asked him to confirm whether the voter turnout was 59.86% as announced by the EC a few hours ago.

9.10pm: Penang Chief Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and other party leaders are set to leave the party's operations room in Sibu.

But instead of going to main tally centre at Dewan Suarah, they plan to go to Wisma Sanyan, where the postal votes are being counted.

8.57pm: According to the latest unofficial tally, BN has reduced DAP's lead down to 2,590 votes. A total of 109 out of 110 polling streams have been counted thus far.

8.40pm: An umbrella revolution is swelling outside of the main tally centre at Dewan Suarah, with 200 people standing in the rain to show their support for DAP's Wong Ho Leng.

Around 200 cops estimated in area, but no untoward incidents so far. No top leaders from either BN or Pakatan Rakyat are there at the moment.

8.33pm: DAP members and some leaders at its Sibu operations room are celebrating, but top party leaders are still waiting for confirmation and refuse to declare victory.

8.14pm: According to the latest unofficial tally, DAP has increased its lead to 3,944 votes. A total of 103 out of 110 polling streams have been counted thus far.

Postal votes are still being counted. In addition, no results yet to come in from BN stronghold Kg Ilir Nangka. In the 2008 general elections, DAP lost by 1,272 votes in Kg Ilir Nangka and 2,571 in postal votes.

However, two DAP MPs - Anthony Loke and Jeff Ooi - have claimed victory.

"Sibu Pakatan Rakyat set to win by wafer-thin majority... probably less than one hundred!" says Loke in his tweet message.

On the spot analysis:DAP is close to victory but it is still too close to call. By all estimates, the margin of victory will be in the hundreds.

8.13pm: A crowd of supporters stand with umbrellas in the rain outside the counting centre compound, chanting "Wong Ho Leng" (DAP candidate) off and on as they wait for the official result to be announced.

The projector outside the centre however has gone offline, and no
updates available so far.

8.10pm: According to the latest unofficial tally, DAP has increased its lead to 3,279 votes. About 95.5% of votes have been counted so far.

If BN can win 2,441 of these postal votes, which is possible, it will win the by-election. The margin of victory will be less than 100 votes.

On the spot analysis

It appears that DAP has benefitted from a slight swing of Chinese voters. However, there is no change in Iban and Malay/Melanau vote. Indeed, BN could have won more votes from these two groups.

DAP will need to a sizable lead if it is to win this by-election as it is expected that BN will get the lion share of the 2,537 postal votes, which are yet to be counted.

According to DAP sources, they won in all Chinese-majority polling streams but the turnout was low, especially among young voters.

MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong says in a tweet that DAP has won over 66% of the Chinese votes. BN will need to bag at least 80% of the Malay/Melanau vote to win this by-election.

6.50pm: Rain starts to fall in Sibu as ballot boxes continue to stream into the counting centre at the main tally centre in Dewan Suarah.

A crowd of onlookers has swelled to about 100 people in surrounding
shops, mostly curious about the hive of activity at the hall.

6.46pm: The Election Commission announces that the voter turnout for today's by-election is 59.86% or 32,742 voters. The total in postal votes are 2,537.

6.42pm: According to the latest unofficial tally, DAP has further increased its lead to 914. So far, 59 out of 110 polling streams, or about 54% of votes, have been counted.

6.35pm: EC deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar is chairing a closed-door meeting to discuss an objection raised by DAP candidate Wong Ho Leng over discrepancies in postal votes.

Dapsy chief Anthony Loke said the objection was over inconsistencies in signatures of witnesses, and DAP are claiming fraud.

"The EC are not happy about it. We don't know what the intend to do," Loke said when contacted through SMS.

It is understood that Wong has walked out of the postal votes counting centre but no decision has been announced yet by the EC.

6.24pm: According to the latest unofficial tally, DAP is leading for the first time as the Chinese-majority areas are being counted.

"It's a clear sign that Chinese votes have swung in favour of us," says DAP leader Anthony Loke. "The question is whether this is enough to carry us through."

DAP sources say that ballot boxes of Malay/Melanau areas yet to be counted. They comprise 10.5% of the Sibu electorate.

Also the estimated 2,000 postal votes, where BN is expected to win over 90% of the votes, are not factored in yet.

6.16pm: A crowd of 150 gather at the DAP operation room in Sibu. As the unofficial results stream in, the crowd cheer.

6.09pm: According to the latest unofficial tally, BN is leading by 1,869 votes. So far, 26 out of 110 polling streams, or about 20% of votes, have been counted.

EC chair Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof says he was not satisfied with the lower voter turnout which fell lower than the 67% recorded in the 2008 general election.

Meanwhile, Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail says polling went smoothly except for a minor incidents of heckling among supporters of the contesting parties.

5.40pm: A few ballot boxes arrive at main tally centre in Dewan Suarah. Dark storm clouds and strong winds coming in, heavy rain expected in Sibu.

5.25pm: Election Commission workers are seen going into the main tally centre at Dewan Suarah in Sibu town. This is where all the votes from the 54 polling centres in today's by-election are tallied.

The final result will be announced by the returning officer later tonight.

DAP sources say the party appeared to have performed worse in Iban areas compared to the 2008 general election.

5.05pm: According to the latest unofficial tally, BN has increased its lead to 2,097 votes. So far, 19 out of 110 polling streams, or about 13% of votes, have been counted.

4.30pm: According to the latest unofficial tally in the polling stations which have closed early, BN has increased its lead to 1,930 votes. So far, 16 out of 110 polling streams have been counted.

4.29pm: Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal (left in pix) denies a scuffle ever occurred at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sg Aup as alleged by DAP MP for Bakri Er Teck Hwa (see below - 12.30pm).

“There wasn't a scuffle (as reported). I was there (to request the DAP supporters) to disperse. There was no scuffle,” the minister told Malaysiakini.

Shafie said that he was there with a group of BN supporters.

“The MP (Er) was in the middle of the road distributing leaflets to voters. That can't happen,” said the Umno vice-president, referring to election laws against campaigning on polling day.

“I told him (Er) that he wasn't allowed to do such a thing. In the election laws, it is prohibited. As a member of Parliament, he should know the laws.

4.14pm: DAP youth chief Anthony Loke tweets about his altercation with EC officials tallying the votes. He describes them, particularly those coming from Kuala Lumpur, as being “rude” and accusing them of “harassing” the DAP polling agent for “complaining too much.”

They are upset because, fighting “for every vote,” the agent is questioning too much.

To the EC officer's complaint that the agent is being 'leceh' (demanding), Loke says he “shot back” with the words: “Don't we have rights to complain? Dah biasa makan gaji buta!” ('You've become used to earning an easy salary!').

Rm$18 Million to swing Sibu Chinese votes

Thank you but no thanks

I can understand the gratitude of the Chinese educators in Sibu over the Rm$18 million allocation given by Najib during the BUY-ELECTION in P212 Sibu.

Rm$10 million to go to 60 Chinese Medium primary schools
Rm$5 million to go to Chinese Medium Secondary Schools
Rm$2 million to SMK Sacred Heart
Rm$1 million to St Mary

The allocation is timely, as it is given during the buy-election to buy the Chinese votes in Sibu plus those from the mission schools. The crux of the story is: is this going to be a one-off affair or will the Government come up with a consistent policy to help Chinese Medium and Mission schools on an annual basis.

Extreme Politicking

I can also understand the BN supporters jumping up and down with joy for this allocation. But then, don’t you wonder what happen to the Chinese Medium schools and Mission Schools in other parts of Sarawak.

The Government need to be consistent and transparent with their policy towards giving aids to such schools. As it is today, 47 years since independent, this “kindness” appear at a time when the people are trying to make a decision to support the Government or to support the Opposition.

It seems, the Government is trying to bribe the people of Sibu with public money. This money is from our tax, nothing much to shout about like : “only BN can bring development to the people”. Actually BN is a coalition of political party that formed the Government and headed by UMNO. Why did BN, as a political entity start to use public money to gain vote.

The Chinese Voting trend

In the many BUY-election, BN has tried to buy the Chinese vote. The Kuala Trengganu etc and the latest in Hulu Selangor proved that the Chinese are politically objective in their approach. Such “mee segera” do not swing their vote. Does the “mee segera of Rm$18 million” help to ease the financial burden of Chinese medium schools in Sibu areas – yes it does. Will it swing the vote back to BN – that is the Rm$18 million question. I think not.

The Chinese are NOT voting Opposition politics. The Chinese votes for justice, equality, fairness, level playing field, good business environment etc. There are many examples of good things that the Government did but mostly the Government is seen to practice double standards among races and double standard within SUPP. The elite SUPP families become very rich while ordinary Chinese have to struggle the normal hard way to make ends meet.

BN candidate Robert Lau Jr. come from one such elite family. The KTS group of companies that control timber business, plantation, reforestation, retailing and even the print media. The question is – do we want to perpetuate a KTS Dynastic in Sarawak?

Education – rural schools

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged that some rural schools are worst then the Felda schools in Malaya. Do you understand what that mean? It means the worst schools in Malaya are in Felda scheme areas – yet when compared to Sarawak Government school, the worst schools in Malaya is much better then the normal rural school in Sarawak.

Why does it takes the Government 47 years to notice this situation. The next question is what will the Government do about it?.

In Malaya the school facilities are first class in every aspects and the Government continue to drive selected “racial based” school to have state of the art educational equipment and facilities.

As a Sarawakian, my question is what is the Government doing to improve the schools in Sarawak, especially rural school. We are not talking about computers, LCD projectors, electronic white board etc. We are asking for schools without leaking roofs, schools with adequate tables and chairs, schools with proper living quarters for teachers, schools with electricity, with clean water, school with open field where children can play soccer on, school with proper river crossing, with good walking pathway etc.

Hell NO! after 47 years of independence through the formation of Malaysia we are still at below the basic level in our rural schools facilities. For us Sarawakian, that is what we are voting for. We know BN is all promises and personal richest for the BN politician, yet the rural people are poor and with very little opportunity to change their life.

Conclusion

It is better for the Government to have a comprehensive policy to help Chinese medium, Indian Medium, and for Dayak Iban language to be taught up to tertiary level.

It is NOT good to see BN praising themselves for their misdeed in using public money to buy vote. If BN want to win through bribery, we must not vote for such people. Why? By voting such BN people, we are voting “corruption”. In an election they must be fair play and we all can see that this is no fairness at all. It is deceit at the highest level by the highest echelon of leadership.

Change WE Must: I do not think Chinese are gullible enough to vote BN on the basis of their vote being bought by the Government. The Chinese are made up of better thinking / reasoning material and holding great wisdom as a guide to their life.

Call to revive DAP Indian bureaus nationwide

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A group of Indian DAP members have called for the revival of the party's Indian bureau at national and state levels.

Bagan Luar DAP branch chief G Asoghan said the members felt that by reactivating the bureaus, the party could forge closer ties with the working-class Indians, who make up the bulk of the community's votes in the country.

He also said that by reviving the bureau, the DAP and Pakatan Rakyat could re-energise its policies and strategies to reach out to the Indians.

The resolution was passed unanimously by some 70 people at the end of a dialogue session between grassroots members and party Indian leaders at the service centre of Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng.

Present at the session were Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and Bagan Dalam state assemblyman A Tanasekaran, DAP vice-chairman and Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran, and Bukit Mertajam parliamentary Indian affairs bureau head K Gunabalan.

The meeting also unanimously passed another resolution calling on all Pakatan state executive councillors in Penang, Kedah and Selangor to appoint a qualified Indian, preferably a Pakatan member with the grassroots touch, as a personal assistant to take charge of Indian affairs.

The members argued that all Pakatan excos should accept responsibility that each of them had a duty to take care of the rights, benefits and interests of the community.

"An Indian aide can help each Pakatan exco handle Indian affairs," he said.

At present, they claimed non-Indian Pakatan excos, state representatives and MPs have been pushing the buck to Indian excos such Ramasamy, S Manikumar (Kedah) and A Xavier Jayakumar (Selangor) to resolve Indian issues.

"Members despised this mandore politics. They have demanded for an end to mandorism ala BN in Pakatan.

"Members argued that Pakatan leaders should walk their talk of being a multiracial coalition representing all communities.

"They should not assign only Indian leaders to handle Indian affairs," Asoghan told FMT.

'Self-denial politically dangerous'

Kulasegaran said he had acknowledged at the meeting of the shortcomings of Pakatan state governments and elected representatives.

He said he understood that the expectations of the Indian community were high and that Pakatan had its limitations.

"But despite the limitations, has Pakatan delivered to the Indian community?" he asked.

He said he would prefer to call "a spade a spade" rather than sweep things under the carpet.

"It's politically dangerous to be in self-denial," said Kulasegaran, who is also a lawyer.

He added that the Pakatan governments could have done more to provide jobs in the civil service, especially in local councils and state-controlled statutory bodies, and creating business opportunities for Indians.

He admitted that Pakatan governments should have implemented permanent policies to resolve the landless status of many Hindu temples and Tamil schools.

Kulasegaram also acknowledged that since achieving an unprecedented electoral success in the 2008 general election, the party's Indian elected representatives, especially the newcomers, have discarded the Indian bureaus and the members.

"We cannot disregard the contributions and sacrifices made by long-serving Indian grassroots leaders and members.

"Elected representatives should mobilise these members and strengthen the Indian political standings within the party," said Kulasegaran.

Whenever the issue of protection of rights of group of members rises there the politics enters into scene.

Politics can affect our system both ways that is negatively as well as positively. It can affect negatively because many times people leave their jobs due to politics at their workplace which they feel that is just the wastage of time and they should just avoid that it is because they don’t want to waste their time in any other activity except their work. This led to increase of pending of jobs and thus adversely affects the organization. Sometimes people may also leave their jobs which would result in lose of human resource of the company.

Sometimes it happens that people form groups at their workplace and do not want others to join their group and also promote members of their own group against the other members and sometimes they may also try to let down the other members which are not from their groups and which may also cause rivalries between groups in the company and thus the workplace becomes the war place. These type of group rivalries are mostly seen in those offices where lot of people work. These types of group rivalries are the main reason for collapse of work in the organization because of non cooperation from all the workers of company. Mainly those workers cause problems who are engaged in group politics. But sometimes this politics can also be useful to groups as well as company. Let’s see how:

Thousands of students watched as M'sian pilot dies in airshow crash

ALOR SETAR, Malaysia: Thousands of Universiti Utara Malaysia students and their parents watched in horror as a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Pilatus PC-7 exploded and caught fire in midair during a solo airshow at 10.15am on Thursday.
The 33-year-old pilot was manoeuvring the aircraft to thrill the crowd at the opening of the UUM convocation expo when the plane's engine compartment, in front of the cockpit, exploded and caught fire.

The crowd watched helplessly as the pilot bailed out of the diving plane, with thick black smoke trailing from the engine compartment, before it crashed behind the Bukit Tangga Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) next to the UUM campus. Although the pilot managed to eject from the plane, his body, still strapped to the seat, was found some 10m from the wreckage.
The body was airlifted from the scene to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-mortem.
A police spokesman said the plane had earlier left the RMAF College in Kepala Batas, Alor Setar, to perform at the airshow.
RMAF has used the aircraft since 1982 to train its pilots at its flight college.
In September last year, two RMAF pilots were killed when their Pilatus PC-7 crashed and burst into flames at the Langkawi International Airport.
The plane had taken off from the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Kepala Batas, Alor Setar but crashed in an open area some 90m from the tarmac at the Langkawi airport.
Currently, the RMAF has 30 units of the Swiss-made PC-7 Mk I and eight units of the older version of the PC-7 Mk II.

ALOR SETAR - A PILOT was killed when his Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft exploded and caught fire in midair during a solo airshow on Thursday, watched by thousands of horrified spectators.
The aircraft crashed in a jungle near Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) sports complex here at 10.15 am on Thursday.
Major Muhammed Zulrihan Jusof, a trainer at RMAF Flying College in Kepala Batas near Alor Setar, was killed on the spot.
A statement from Malaysia's Defence Ministry said the PC-7 MK II aircraft piloted by Zulrihan left RMAF base in Kepala Batas at 10.03am.
A RMAF search and rescue team found Zulrihan's body not far from the aircraft and used a Nuri helicopter to airlift him from the jungle area to a hospital in Alor Setar.
Zulrihan, who was doing a solo show to mark UUM's 23rd convocation, was attempting a difficult manoeuvre when the aircraft crashed.
'After about 300 metres from the sports complex, the aircraft made two manoeuvres, ascended 90 degrees and suddenly came sliding down,' said AzlanJamaluddin, 26, a former UUM student.
Azlan, who was about 500 metres from the crash site, said he heard two big explosions before the aircraft crashed.
UUM College of Arts and Science student Siti Fatimah Kamal, 22, said she and her friends saw the aircraft ascending 90 degrees and then plunging.
'We heard two explosions and fled to safety,' she said.
A board of inquiry had been set up to investigate the cause of the crash, RMAF said in a statement on Thursday. -- BERNAMA

SINTOK: A Royal Malaysian Airforce (RMAF) pilot was killed after his Pilatus PC-7 MK2 aircraft crashed into a forest reserve in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) here this morning.

Major Zulrihan Jusoh, 39, who was the solo flyer of the aircraft, died on the spot in the 10.15am mishap.

The aircraft was involved in an airshow during the opening ceremony of UUM's 23rd Convocation carnival when the incident occured.

It is learnt that Zulrihan, from Kelantan, managed to eject from his seat before the plane crashed into the forest reserve which is about 300m away from a student hostel.

His body was found about a few metres away from the aircraft.

The impact of the crash was so strong that the cockpit of the plane was gutted by fire.

State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Ahmad Zamri Cik said 14 men in two engines were rushed to the scene to control the situation.

A witness Mohd Fairuz Mohd Mokhtar, 22, said the aircraft was making a performance before it plunged from the sky.

"I thought it was part of the performance. However I was shocked to learn that the plane actually crashed," he said.

Obama Vs. China: Let’s Get Ready To Rumble

While there may be many promises of “change” happening in America…one thing that is definitely “changing” is the relationship between China and the U.S.

Why is this increasingly important? There are a few reasons but a couple of important ones off the top of my head are:

Just a few short years ago, China was only the 8^th largest economy in the world. Now they are at least 4^th and many argue that they are now the 3^rd largest economy in the world. Not too shabby for a country that wasn’t even invited to G-7 meetings.

Another important reason is that they are THE largest holder of U.S. treasuries as of last September. Until then, they were second only to Japan.

While I’m a “red-blooded” American…I’ll have to say that we picked this fight. We started it even before Tim Geithner officially became our Treasury Secretary when he stated that Obama feels that China is manipulating their currency. So that puts them both in the ring with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

China quickly refuted this claim that same week. However, for the first time ever, the Premier shows up at the World Economic Conference in Davos, Switzerland.

China’s first big Jab comes at Davos!

His speech, while not directly calling out the U.S., really alluded to the fact that the U.S. originator of the world’s economic woes.

My Wen blamed an “excessive expansion of financial institutions in blind pursuit of profit” a “failure of government supervision” and an “unsustainable model of development characterized by prolonged low savings and high consumption”.

I must say what the Premiere said makes a lot of sense.

We are “ticking off” our largest creditor and it’s not the smartest move we’ve ever made as a nation. While Obama will probably do a lot of great things for the economy, this is not one of them.

Not surprisingly, China says it’s “examining its investments”. Sounds like they are trying to say, “Watch it or we will pull the plug on you!”

The Chinese already haven’t been happy about their investments in Morgan Stanley (MS: 32.10 -0.21 -0.65%), Fannie Mae (FNM: 1.02 -0.01 -0.97%), Freddie Mac (FRE: 1.14 -0.02 -1.72%) and others. In fact, when many U.S. companies recently turned to China for funding, China backed away.

So while I don’t believe China will dump all of its U.S. treasuries like some say, I do think that they could still hurt us economically as they continue to climb the rungs on the economic ladder to the top.

China needs to be taken seriously and dealt with wisely. After all, they now have over $2 trillion in foreign exchange reserves…and recently, China has been sharply trimming its holdings of Fannie and Freddie debt. After making net purchases of $46 billion in the first half of 2008, they were net sellers of $26.1 billion in the five months through November and that’s according to U.S. data, not China’s sources.

Also, one Chinese government official recently told the China Daily newspaper (in December) that “Washington shouldn’t expect continuous inflows of more cheap foreign capital to fund its one-after-another massive bailouts”.

You see, for the last number of years, we’ve preached to China about how they need to become more like us here in the U.S. Now that it doesn’t seem to be working as well for us as we’d like (at the moment), this argument becomes a “hard sell” to the Chinese.

Also, China will revalue its currency when it decides to and not when we tell them to do so. Besides, what country is going to jack their currency up higher when they are facing rough economic times? They know that there is no reason put the nail in the coffin of their exporters just to pacify the U.S.

So while I’m an American, I can’t always say what we do is right. It’s sort of like “standing up for family because they are family” rather than “standing up for what is right” instead.

If we are smart, we will take an approach with China much like former Treasury Secretary Paulson took. It’s one of the things he did get right. The Chinese ended up strengthening their currency at least 15% while he was in office. Before then, we didn’t have much luck in our talks with China. So in that regard, it was smart of Bush to pick him as his choice of Treasury Secretary. While both Bush and Paulson have had their screw ups, we are now getting “wrong” the areas they got right.

To sum it all up, I think that this could undermine the U.S. dollar, U.S. treasuries and boost the price of gold.

Power has been called many things. The ultimate aphrodisiac. An absolute corrupter. A mistress. A violin. But its true nature remains elusive. After all, a head of state wields a very different sort of power than a religious figure. Can one really compare the influence of a journalist to that of a terrorist? And is power unexercised power at all?

In compiling our first ranking of the World's Most Powerful People we wrestled with these questions — and many more — before deciding to define power in four dimensions. First, we asked, does the person have influence over lots of other people? Pope Benedict XVI, ranked 11th on our list, is the spiritual leader of more than a billion souls, or about one-sixth of the world's population, while Wal-Mart CEO Mike Duke (No. 8) is the largest private-sector employer in the United States.

Then we assessed the financial resources controlled by these individuals. Are they relatively large compared with their peers'? For heads of state we used GDP, while for CEOs, we looked at a composite ranking of market capitalization, profits, assets and revenues as reflected on our annual ranking of the World's 2000 Largest Companies. In certain instances, like New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller (No. 51), we judged the resources at his disposal compared with others in the industry. For billionaires, like Bill Gates (No. 10), net worth was also a factor.

Next we determined if they are powerful in multiple spheres. There are only 67 slots on our list — one for every 100 million people on the planet — so being powerful in just one area is not enough to guarantee a spot. Our picks project their influence in myriad ways. Take Italy's colorful prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi (No. 12) who is a politician, a media monopolist and owner of soccer powerhouse A.C. Milan, or Oprah Winfrey (No. 45) who can manufacture a best-seller and an American President.

Lastly, we insisted that our choices actively use their power. Ingvar Kamprad, the 83-year-old entrepreneur behind Ikea and the richest man in Europe, was an early candidate for this list, but was excluded because he doesn't exercise his power. On the other hand, Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin (No. 3) scored points because he likes to throw his weight around by jailing oligarchs, invading neighboring countries and periodically cutting off Western Europe's supply of natural gas.

To calculate the final rankings, five Forbes senior editors ranked all of our candidates in each of these four dimensions of power. Those individual rankings were averaged into a composite score, which determined who placed above (or below) whom.

U.S. President Barack Obama emerged, unanimously, as the world's most powerful person, and by a wide margin. But there were a number of surprises. Former President George W. Bush didn't come close to making the final cut, while his predecessor in the Oval Office, Bill Clinton, ranks 31st, ahead of a number of sitting heads of government. Apple's Steve Jobs easily made the list, while Arnold Schwarzenegger, the movie star governor of California (alone, the world's fifth largest economy) did not.

Thousands of mink in dash for freedom in Jutland

For the second time in under a week, a mink farm in Jutland has been attacked by animal rights activists, releasing some 3,000 of the animals into the wild.

The discovery was made by a food delivery driver who raised the alarm at the farm in Western Jutland’s Klosterhede Plantation. Hunters and farmers from the region were called to capture or destroy the escapees.

According to news source Politiken, local police claimed that aside from releasing the mink from their cages, surrounding fences were also damaged in order to allow the animals to flee to freedom. This is the second such incident in the area following the release of over 6,000 mink last week from a farm near Sondervig. While most of those mink have been recaptured, as many as 3,000 may have to be put down. The farms tend to find appropriate companions for individual minks to share a cage with, but on escaping to the wild the couples are inevitably broken up becoming increasingly aggressive leading to bitter infighting.

Investigations continue into eye witness sightings of a man seen to be running from the Holstebro Minkfodercentral factory to a nearby vehilce having apparently opened a silo tap releasing several tons of feed.

Sander Jacobsen of the Danish Fur Breeder Association claimed the release could result in an ecological disaster for the local area. ”The mink will try to survive and simply vacuum the area of all amphibians and small birds, and since they are not very good at surviving in this way for longer periods, they will die,” Jacobsen said.

According to The Danish Forest and Nature Agency the actions were likely to cause more damage than good. ”This type of crime is frustrating and silly. The mink are the ones that suffer, but it also affects the balance in the surrounding environment,” Consultant Jens Henrik Jakobsen claimed.

Palin Resignation A Brilliant Plan Or Huge Disaster?

Palin's resignation sent rumors flying. She's been called a "loser," a "quitter," and told by the Democratic Party she's "leaving the people of Alaska high and dry..." The anti-Palin blogosphere is having a field day.

But, all and all, why did she resign? Before going deeper into the politics of it, let's first take Palin at her word. She told us she has a few reasons for stepping down, listed here:

Tired Of Wasting Time/Money On Ethics Complaints Sarah made it quite clear in her resignation speech that she was tired of spending her and her staff's time on defending herself from untruthful attacks, "setting the record straight." Here's what she says: "Every one - all 15 of the ethics complaints {against me} have been dismissed. We've won! But it hasn't been cheap - the State has wasted thousands of hours of your time and shelled out some two million of your dollars to respond to "opposition research" - that's money not going to fund teachers or troopers - or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the "politics of personal destruction" ... Todd and I are looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight. And what about the people who offer up these silly accusations? It doesn't cost them a dime so they're not going to stop draining public resources - spending other peoples' money in their game."
No Lame Duck! Palin also made it clear that once she had decided she was not going to run for re-election that she was not going to be a "lame duck," spending the state's time and money on frivolous and unhelpful things.
Feels As Though She's Accomplished Many Things Definitely much more than most governors in their first half of a term! In her speech she cited many accomplishments, here are a few:

AGIA Gasline Project, "the largest private sector energy project ever," as stated by Palin.
Bipartisan Ethics Reform
"Took government out of the dairy business and put it in private sector hands"
Built a Sub-Cabinet on Climate Change
"Made common sense conservative choices to eliminate personal luxuries like the jet, the chef, the junkets... the entourage.
Said "no" to pay raises (herself and the lieutenant governor)

That's what Palin says about her resignation. Now let's take a look at the rumors of a "bombshell investigation," as said by her opponents. Here's what the FBI had to say: "There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez of Anchorage said. "It's just not true..." there is "no wiggle room!"

So much for the bombshell.

In my mind, I think governor Palin's choice was a brilliant tactical move. Here are some reasons why:

She Can Speak Out and Focus On Issues She Cares About As most of you probably know, Governor Palin is working on a book. According to state ethics guidelines, as governor the things she can write about are very limited.
She Saves Herself and Alaska Money As said before, attacks on Governor Palin have caused half a million dollars in legal bills for their family and even more for the state.
She's Headline News! Now that the stunning news of the resignation has broken, governor Palin will be in the news for quite awhile. The more left-wing commentators scream about her, the more her sympathy vote will grow.

Of course, does all of this lead to 2012? That's a topic for another post.

Governor Palin To Resign

The latest political bombshell: the resignation of Alaska governor Sarah Palin. The move came Friday before a small crowd of reporters and family, early in the Alaskan morning. Palin's husband, Todd Palin, is quoted as saying she will soon be able to concentrate on "doing the things for Alaska and the country".

During her resignation announcement speech, governor Palin noted that her administration has done tremendous things for her state in a short time, citing the oil and gas pipeline and others. She added that nowadays, after her run as vice presidential nominee with John McCain, she spends most of her time and her staff's time defending herself and "setting the record straight." Recently she has had 15 ethics complaints filed against her, all of them dismissed.

Palin spoke heavily about how she could not get things done efficiently anymore now that tens of thousands of dollars of state dollars were being spent on defending herself from untruthful and unjust lies. Once her resignation is official and lieutenant governor Sean Parnell is sworn in, the governor will more time to focus on her family and some much needed free time out the state's rough and tumble politics.

But is her resignation a sign of buckling to pressure, or just honestly "I'm fed up!". While it might be a little bit of both, you must admit the unfair media coverage and vicious onslaughts of personal attacks have probably been at least noticed by the Palin family.

Or is this somethings different? Could it be a shrewd political move? Could Sarah Palin be eyeing 2012? We'll just have to wait and see.

Swine Flu?

Breaking: The Secretary of Human Services, former Arizona governor Janet Napolitano, has declared a U.S. public health emergency concerning the outbreak of swine flu. So far 20 people been sickened in California, New York, Texas, Ohio and Kansas. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has said it is prepared to distribute a quarter of its 50 million doses of anti-viral medications to affected areas.

Napolitano added that hand washing, mask wearing, and staying at home if you're sick will help contain the virus and keep you healthy.

Dr. Richard Besser, head of the CDC, has said that the U.S., Canada, and Mexico are working with the World Health Organization and other countries to help reduce the spread of this strain of swine flu.

So far countries such as Israel, New Zealand, Spain, France, and Canada have reported isolated cases of the flu after tourists have returned home from Mexico.

Mexico has reported over 80 deaths in their country so far. Travel advisories, however, have not been issued, and passengers on flights arriving from Mexico will not be screened.

say "Purse", "keys", "ID card" etc.
• When your pockets/bags are empty, turn your pockets / bags
inside out

7.3 Your rights
• All body searches must be carried out in a professional manner and
with decency.
• A female can only be body searched by a female Police Officer.
• If you are forced/threatened to strip naked:
1. Protest
2. Remember the Police Officer's name.
3. Lodge a Police report after the incident.

8. BODY SEARCH UPON ARREST
8.1 When Police can do so
• The Police reasonably suspect that you have evidence relating to a
suspected offence.
• You are arrested.
• The body search must be conducted in a confined place. It is your
right to be bodily searched in private.

8.2 Types of Body search
The law allows the Police to conduct 4 types of body search:-
1. Pat down search - act of searching outer clothing.
2. Strip search - to search for concealed evidence, object,
contraband or weapon. May only be conducted with the
authorisation of an officer ranked Inspector and above.
3. Intimate search - to search beyond the mouth, nose and ears.
May only be conducted with the authorisation of an officer
ranked Assistant Superintendent (ASP) and above.
4. Intrusive search - to determine the existence of objects etc in
the body. May only be conducted with the authorisation of the
Officer in charge of the Police District (OCPD). Must be
conducted by a Government Medical Officer or Medical
Officer.

8.3 Your rights
• All body searches must be carried out in a professional manner and
with decency.
• It is advisable to request that you be accompanied by your lawyer for
the search.
• A female can only be body searched by a female Police Officer.

9. QUESTIONING BY POLICE AFTER ARREST
9.1 Identity of the Police Officer questioning you
Note the name /rank of the Police Officer questioning you.
9.2 Right to remain silent
The Police Officer will first make friendly conversation/talk (example:
ask you about your family and friends etc). You are only obliged to give
your full name, age, address and occupation (Personal Particulars).
Other than giving your Personal Particulars, you have the right to
remain silent. Be polite. Do not be afraid to remain silent. This is your
right. If you choose the right to remain silent, say: "I would like to
exercise my right to silence".

9.3 112 Statement by you during investigation
The Police Officer will ask you questions and then write down your
answers. The Police cannot threaten or force you into making a
Statement. If you have been threatened, beaten or forced, lodge a
police report against the Police Officer at first opportunity. This is
your right.

9.4 112 Statement is not to be used as evidence
Generally, any Statement you make to the Police during investigations
cannot be used as evidence except if you being charged for offences
under, for example, the Dangerous Drugs Act, the Kidnapping Act and
the Internal Security Act. But you may use the Statement to support
your defence during your trial.

Know your right before Police officer

4. POLICE ARREST YOU
4.1 Ask: "Why am I under arrest?"
An arrest is unlawful if you are not informed of the reason.

4.2 Do not resist an arrest
The Police have the right to use reasonable force to arrest you if you
resist.

4.3 Ask: "Which Police station are you taking me to?"
The arresting Police Officer must immediately take you to the
nearest Police station and no other place.

4.4 What to do when arrested
You have the right to telephone call to:-
1. Your relative or friend; and
2. A lawyer.
You may also call a nearby Legal Aid Centre (LAC). Inform them:
• you have been arrested;
• the time, place and reason of the arrest;
• the Police station you will be taken to.

4.5 What happens after arrest
You may be detained up to 24 hours:
• at the Police station, or
• in a lock-up to "assist" police investigation.

5. YOUR RIGHTS AFTER ARREST & DURING DETENTION
5.1 Right to consult a lawyer
Once you request for the presence of a lawyer, you have a right to
consult the lawyer at the Police Station. The Police must accord
you reasonable facilities and a reasonable time for you to meet
and consult the lawyer. The Police may, however, deny you this
right, if the delay in questioning you may cause the occurrence of
another crime or cause danger to others.

5.2 Clothing
You are allowed to have one set of clothing with you in the
lock-up.

5.3 Personal belongings
The Police must record and put all your personal belongings in
safe custody. Your personal belongings must be returned to you
upon your release.

5.4 Welfare
You are allowed to take a bath two times a day. If you are sick,
you have the right to receive immediate medical attention.
You are to be given proper and adequate food and water during
detention.

5.5 How long may the Police detain you
The Police may only detain you up to 24 hours for investigation.
The duty of the Police is to complete investigations within 24 hours
and to release you as soon as possible. If the Police cannot complete
investigations within 24 hours, the Police must bring you before a
Magistrate for a remand order to extend your detention beyond
24 hours (Remand Order).

6. REMAND ORDER BY MAGISTRATE AFTER 24 HOURS
6.1 Who is a Magistrate
A Magistrate is a judicial officer. He/She has the power to make a
Remand Order to detain you for more than 24 hours.

6.2 Purpose of a Remand Order
It is to give more time to the Police to complete their investigations
and decide whether there is evidence to charge you for an offence.
The Police cannot ask for a Remand Order only for the purpose of
taking a Statement from you.

6.3 How long is a Remand Order
When the Police bring you before a Magistrate for a Remand Order,
the Police must give reasons to the Magistrate why it is necessary to
detain you for more than 24 hours. The Magistrate's duty is to
consider carefully the reasons given by the Police.
The Magistrate has the discretion:
• not to make a Remand Order and release you; or
• make a Remand Order for a period shorter than that asked for by
the Police.
In any event, the Magistrate has the power to make a Remand Order
of not more than 4 days or 7 days depending on the offence being
investigated. The Police may return at the expiration of this time
period and apply for a 2nd Remand Order. The Magistrate may make
a 2nd Remand Order of not more than 3 days or 7 days depending
on the offence being investigated.

6.4 What to say when you are brought before a Magistrate for
remand
Tell the Magistrate:
• you want legal representation and you want to contact your lawyer,
the LAC and your family;
• you want medical treatment because you are sick or have been
beaten;
• if the Police had threatened or beaten you during detention;
• if you had been denied proper and adequate food/water/clothing,
the toilet or necessary medical attention during your detention;
• whether you have been detained previously immediately before
your current detention;
• whether the Police had carried out any investigations during your
detention.

6.5 Ask for a shorter Remand Order from the Magistrate
Before the Magistrate makes the Remand Order, ask for a shorter
remand period asked by the Police. Give reasons (Example: "I will
co¬operate with the Police in their investigation", "I will be available
and will not run away" etc).

1. POLICE STOPS YOU

1.1 Not in uniform, ask for identification
Say: "Please, show me your Police authority card".
1.2 Police authority card
Red : Suspended Police Officer. He has no authority to do
anything to you. Walk away.

Other colours:
• Blue : Rank of Inspector and above
• Yellow : Below the rank of Inspector
• White : Reserve police

Note his name and ID number
1.3 In uniform
Note his name and ID number on his uniform.
1.4 Police vehicle
Note the number plate of the patrol car or motorcycle.

2. POLICE QUESTION YOU WHEN STOPPED
2.1 Your identification
Only give your name, ID card number and address.
2.2 The police ask other questions
Politely ask "Am I under arrest?"
2.3 When you are under arrest
You are arrested if the police:
• tells you "yes";
• does not allow you to leave/want to take you to the Police
Station; or
• handcuffs you
if you are not under arrest, you may walk away/refuse to follow
him back to the Police station or anywhere else, if asked.
2.4 When you cannot be arrested
The police cannot arrest you just because you are a potential
witness and want to take a statement from you (112 / Witness
Statement).

3. QUESTIONING BY POLICE WITHOUT ARREST

3.1 112 Statement
When the police are investigating a case and think you have
information / knowledge about the case, the police may examine
you and take down your answers (112 Statement).

3.2 Informal/Formal Request
Most times, the police make an informal request that you give a 112
Statement. If the place and time is convenient to you, cooperate.
If not, tell the police you will do so at a convenient place.
If you refuse to cooperate, the police may issue a formal order in
writing, signed by an investigating officer (Police Officer) to ask
you to cooperate.
If you disobey a Police Order, you cannot be arrested. However, it is
an offence and the police may request the Magistrate to issue a
warrant against you to compel you to cooperate.

3.3 Giving a 112 Statement
You have the right to ask a lawyer to accompany you.
This is advisable.
In giving a 112 Statement, you may refuse to answer any question /
remain silent if the answer is likely to expose you to a criminal
offence.
• Bring along a notebook or writing paper with you (Personal Notes).
• Write down every question asked in your Personal Notes.
• Make sure you understand every question asked.
• Take your time and think carefully before writing your answers in
your Personal Notes.
• Read your answers to the Police Officer questioning you.
• Keep your Personal Notes for future reference.

3.4 Signing your 112 Statement
Before signing your Statement, read the questions and your answers
written by the Police Officer carefully.
• Compare the Statement you are asked to sign with your Personal

Notes.
• You have the right to make any corrections/changes to the
Statement before signing.
• Sign your signature immediately below the last sentence of your
Statement.
